It seems like everybody has a new buzz word or ingredient that you should be avoiding.  One year it was soy, another year it was high fructose corn syrup, but these days all you’re hearing about is gluten free.  But what the heck is gluten?  Well, beauties, gluten is an enzyme that is found on wheat, barley, and rye.  So. anything with any these three ingredients has gluten in it.  And, you wouldn’t believe how many foods and beauty products have wheat in them!

This blogger recently decided to make the change to a gluten free lifestyle (read: talked herself into having a gluten intolerance!), which got the hamster wheel turning: is there gluten in my beauty products? Is that contributing to my symptoms? Are they any good products out there that are G-free?  After walking the shelves of Planet Beauty, searching for lines that feature gluten free products, the conclusion was that there are indeed great beauty lines within the walls of Planet Beauty that are gluten free!  If you’re making the G-free change or just want something a little more healthy and natural, read on– Planet Beauty has you covered!

Just to clarify, gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. It can sometimes be seen on ingredient labels as “modified starch”, “modified food starch”, or simply “starch”. If it doesn’t specify, I usually assume it’s wheat. Wheat can also be labeled as “hydrolyzed vegetable protein” and “malt” is barley.

I have Celiac Disease and have to be strictly gluten free, but I don’t react to products with gluten in them (it’s an intestinal reaction and autoimmune). However, some people have the skin condition where they have to avoid gluten in everything. AND I like avoiding gluten in my products simply because it’s usually used as filler, and I like products as natural as they can be!

Thanks for spreading the word about gluten free and some of the products available. It’s up to us consumers to set a high bar for what we want in our products…all natural, gluten free, and organic are a great start!
