Besides your beautiful eyes, what is one of the first things people notice about your face? That’s right, your eyebrows—and whatever current state of dishevelment they are in. That’s why it’s super important to keep those babies groomed—you never know who is going to be looking (and silently judging!). But, what’s the best way to keep your brows looking beauteous? Well, you could wax, pluck, or thread—usually the best results come when a licensed esthetician takes care of it. But, if you’re daring enough to give it go by yourself, keep some things in mind, and make sure you get the right tools! Read on for a blog dedicated to everything eyebrow!
First, what are your options? You can easily buy wax or pre waxed strips at Planet Beauty, but what if you take off half of your eyebrow? Leave the hot stuff to the pros, and instead, score a great pair of tweezers. Brands like Mehaz and Tweezerman make high quality products that come with a guarantee, and if your tweezer becomes dull, you can send it in to be sharpened and returned fairly quickly! Many women in industrialized cultures pluck their eyebrows as part of their overall beauty routine. Depending on their eyebrow shape, how fast their hair grows, and general personal care, they may have to tweeze their brows weekly or more often while young, though as they age, hair growth may slow down somewhat. To pluck your eyebrows for maximum benefits, follow a few steps to get the best possible result. First off, wash your face, especially the brow areas, with warm water and a gently cleans. This will help to reduce the risk of irritation or inflammation by bacteria after plucking away unwanted hair. Next, take note of the natural arch of your brows. If it is indefinable or thin, color it in with an eyebrow pencil, taking care not to streak or smudge the line. There are also stencils available to help you shape your brows to a particular arch. Now, bust out your magnification mirror and study the area to find extra hair on either side of the line or anywhere near it, including the bridge of the nose or the side of your face at the end of the brow line. Make sure not to pluck too far from the center (you’ll widen the look of your face) or too far in from the edge (you’ll make your face look squishy). A good trick is to take a makeup brush or a pencil, and line it up with the side of your nose to determine how much to take out of the middle.
Once you’ve tweezed your way to brow perfection, there’s still a few things you can do to keep up the maintenance. First, in the case that you accidentally over tweezed, or just didn’t pick the right shape, you can fix the problem on the double by grabbing some brow powder or a brow pencil. When choosing a color, always go for the lighter one—a darker color always ends up looking at least a shade or two darker when applied to your face. Keep your eyebrows looking the way you want all day long by applying a clear gel. Often times these gels come in what looks like a mascara tube. After you finish applying your color, lightly run the clear gel through the brows to keep them in place and keep your hard work of penciling in place. This blogger likes to keep it simple and always reaches for Smashbox’s Brow Tech To-Go, which comes in a Dark Brown and Taupe colors, and features a dual sided applicator for both penciling and applying gel. Other lines, like Anastasia, have colored brow gels to do both jobs in one quick swipe! Find both at your local Planet Beauty store!
