Ah, the Golden Globes. One of the only nights where Hollywood’s elite showstoppers from both television and film pile into one room, have an open bar (which undoubtedly leads to some great next day stories!), and get a gilded blunt object if the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decides they were “the best.” Not to mention the nepotism of Miss/Mr. Golden Globes- the son and/or daughter of top tier Hollywood royalty. This year’s Miss Golden Globe, Francesca Eastwood, although ethereal and lovely, couldn’t seem to wipe that frown off her face. Maybe it was the hosts jokes… anyway, SOME stars really knocked it out of the park with their fashion and beauty looks, while others… yah, didn’t. Read on for a roundup of the best looks, and an inside tip on how to create a classic look for yourself!
For the last several years, starlets have been rocking the messy, yet sexy, loose beachy wave look. This year at the Globes, stars left the wave and texture spray at home, and showed up in their town cars wearing much more sophisticated, sleek, old Hollywood Glamourous looks, like deep side parts with loose waves, and even that slicked back center part Jessica Chastain managed to pull off. A few stars, like Naomi Watts and Amy Adams, chose very Downton Abbey sinspried looks, with finger waves rolled into a faux- bob– which is actually surprisingly easy to do! Simply curl all of your hair with a clipless curling iron (it doesn’t get much easier than a Sarah Potempa Beachwaver!), and gather into a low side pony tail. Begin loosely wrapping the tail around the elastic, pinning with hairpins every quarter turn. Pull a few front pieces out, and spray with a strong hold hairspray.
Another huge look for the Globes was a very minimalist look– ala Sienna Miller. Well, maybe she could have put on a little mascara for such a big awards show, but hey, to each her own! Jessica Chastain and Rachel Weisz (aka Missus James Bond!!) realled nailed it with burgundy stained lips, and minimal eyeliner and shadow. All beauties know you play up one feature, and these ladies chose the right one! For a beautiful stain similar to these mega stars, try Smashbox’s Limitless lip stain in Sangria.
Stars also wowed in their fashions– natch! Trumpet style skirts were big this year, with ladies like Taylor Swift (yay!) and Kelly Osbourne taking home top honors in this department. Taylor wore a gorgeous dark maroon number that really accentuated her fair skin and minimal makeup, while Kelly chose a white satin version that was very structured, and fit her body beautifully.
Over all, if the Globes are a precursor to the Oscars, the fashions, beauty, and movies surely won’t disappoint!
