The People’s Choice awards are exactly what they sound like: a chance for celebs to dress up, go sit in a room with each other, and talk about how great they are. Sounds like every other awards show, right? Wrong! The People’s Choice awards are all about (you guessed it) the people’s choices– that means no academy and no critics are going to tell people who the best actress or best picture was. It’s based on your votes alone, and for this reason, stars tend to take more risks with their fashion and beauty at this award show.
Because it’s just before the spring runways, designers often use the People’s Choice Awards as a sounding block to dress celebs in their newest frocks, and see how well they are received. Often, this show is a precursor for how the rest of fashion for spring and summer will be. And, if the awards were any indication, you better bust out your monochromatic colors, because white and black were all over the red carpet. Taylor Swift donned a much more adult, plunging neckline, white dress with a smoldering smoky eye and her straightened hair pulled off her face, he new signature bangs pinned back. Even if she got interrupted by Olivia Wilde (why does that always happen?) at least she looked fantastic!
Here at Planet Beauty, you know we’re nail polish OBSESSED, so it’s no surprise we hunted down Claire Danes’ and Rosie Huntington-Whitely’s nail polish lacquer of choice to crib it for our next mani– “Passion” by OPI, which is a regular in their soft shades collection (read: it’s not going anywhere!) This shade is a very subtle, soft, light pinkish white that compliments every skin tone, and can be worn as one coat to give a nice, natural shine to your nails, or doubled up on coats to give a more full coverage, natural nail look.
So many starlets wore their hair up this season it was almost an epidemic! Most noticeably, Miss Katy Perry (soon to be Mrs. Mayer?) wore her hair in adorable little Dutch Boy braids wrapped around her head like a crown. Cute for the beach? Def. Good for an awards show? Not so much, but it definitely worked with the cute milkmaid style print dress she was rocking!
One thing’s for certain: these celebs should give their makeup artists a raise! All the lovely ladies of the Red Carpet were primed and styled to perfection, and it lasted from the first bad joke to the last. One way to get a perfect makeup look from start to finish is to make sure you set your makeup with a finishing spray, like the Makeup Setting Spray from Model in a Bottle. This blogger has been loving it because it doesn’t allow oil to pop up through your makeup and make your skin look shiny– perfect for your next big event! Get your own at your local Planet Beauty store for $22.00.
Make sure you stay tuned for coverage of all the awards this season, and a few helpful tricks and tips on how to score the look yourself! Until next time, beauties!
