It’s definitely the start of Award Season! You know, the special time of year when celebrities start getting together to wear their fanciest of frocks, get gussied up and decked out in jewels, and then sit in an auditorium with other celebrities for a few hours and talk about how wonderful a few of them are! Last week was the American Music Awards, which is a somewhat special show in that the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers and the public. The American Music Awards have nominations based on sales, airplay, activity on social networks, and video viewing and can nominate only the works released between 1 December of the previous year and 1 September of the current year. So, instead of being voted on by a bunch of stuffy old people, the AMAs are awards based on what normal people like us want to hear on the radio! Stars pulled out all the stops for this one, and many of the beauty looks were similar: a nude lip with a dark smoky eye. Many starlets were forgoing the classic loose waves for more polished updo’s, including artists like Taylor Swift and Jordin Sparks. Read on to learn how to create your own red carpet worthy look!
Some people find creating a smoky eye look to be rather daunting. This blogger says fear not! Whilst attending a Planet Beauty education class, a makeup artist educator taught Buffs the easiest new way to get the perfect smoky eye: the Neopolitan Ice Cream method. Sounds weird, right? Trust me, it’s not. Many of the babes at the AMAs were rocking bronzed and gold colored eyes, so bust out your three favorite shadow colors, in a light, medium, and dark brown. First, make sure your shadow will stay all night by applying a shadow primer, like Too Faced’s Shadow Insurance. Then, take a flat rounded shadow brush and pick up the lightest color and gently press a stripe a third of the way onto your eyelid and into the inner corner. Then, take the medium shade and press a stripe into the middle. Follow with the darkest shade and press a stripe into the outer corner of your eyelid. Now, take a crease brush, and, starting at the outer corners, blend inward in a windshield wiper motion, making sure the lines between colors are blurred. Now, line your eyes and add mascara for a complete eye look! Celebs were keeping the look minimal with just clear or very light peachy glosses, so don’t over do (or upstage your eyes!) by adding too much in the way of lips!
Since so many starlets were rocking sleek updos, let’s forget about the waves for a day and focus on how to get a rockin’ bun any Hollywood gal would be proud of. Start by putting your hair in a high pony. Take the tail of your hair and tease it up really big; the more teasing you do, the bigger your bun will be. Then, gather your huge tail together and gently and loosely roll around your elastic. Tuck the ends, and secure with hair pins. Lightly add a finishing spray (This blogger LOVES It’s a 10 light hold hair spray!) and smooth any flyaways. Wow, Taylor Swift, when did you get here?
