Everybody knows trends come and go, seasons change and so do the hot hairstyles.  Right now, THE LOOK is definitely a high, perfectly coifed bun. Struggling with stragglers, flyways, and other hair calamities can cause a lot of stress for those special occasions when everything has to look sleek and be combed into place. So, whether you’re going to an intimidating job interview or a snazzy party, a classic bun is always a cool way to dress your hair in case of up-do crisis. The real question is how do you do a bun? We all know the sloppy buns, and the unfinished pony-tail buns, or even the “messy on purpose” buns (which this blogger lovingly calls a “Sara Bun”).  But, the latest technology in “bunning” involves something so generic, almost every home in American has one.  All you have to do is get over the embarrassment of attaching a piece of footwear to your head!  Read on for two different ways to do a bun, one easy, one a little more complex.  Whichever you do, your bun will be the most rockin’ at your next event, or even a day at work!

First up, the elusive sock bun.  This look is actually much easier than it seems!  All you need is a tube sock(if you have dark hair, try to find a dark colored one), two pony tail holders, and a few bobby pins. Cut a quarter sized hole in the toe, and role your sock until there’s nothing left to role. (It should resemble a swollen hair band with a small hole in the middle).  Pull your hair back into a ponytail at the spot you want the center of your bun to be. Next, pull your hair through the center of the rolled sock, and make sure you don’t leave any part of your ponytail behind.  Place the roll as tight and close to the base of your ponytail as possible.

Spread your hair over the sock in all directions so that none of your sock shows. It helps if you lean forward so that your soon-to-be-bun is parallel to the ground and gravity is on your side. Secure your hair with a hair-band around your hair and sock.  Now all you have to do it pins the loose ends of your hair neatly around the base of your pony tail, under the rest of the bun. Then, spray your hair with hairspray like you have an endless supply.  If your hair is really long and pinning the ends isn’t an option, take the ends and make a braid or fishtail, and wrap the braid around the base of the bun for a fancy crown look!

Another option for a less sleek, but equally chic bun is taking a pony tail and on the last pull, leave the ends hanging out from the ponytail holder.  The bigger the loop of hair, the bigger and higher your bun will be.  Then, take the ends of the bun and really wrap it around the base of the loop, twisting it around as you go.  then, simply pin the ends to secure.  This style is great because it can help your look go from “too done” to “perfectly undone” with just your hair!  Try this look for a fun night out with the girls, or running errands around town to keep it classy.
