Welcome back to another installment of the Nail Files, where we teach you how to get the coolest nail art designs on your own, using a few simple tools you probably already have! This time, we’re going to talk about the coolest way to make your many add a little edge to your outfit: studs! Studs have been huge news on the runways and fashionistas this year, adding the edge factor to clothing and accessories alike! Now you can get the look on your nails by using tiny nail art studs, which look amazing and are much cheaper way to get the look than investing in a studded biker jacket!  Read on for directions on how you can be a studded diva on your own in no time!

First things first: remove any extra nail polish or residue from your nails and file them to your liking.  Deborah Lippmann suggests only filing in one direction to reduce the chance of splits and peels.  Lay down a base coat and ridge filler to get a smooth canvas, and paint your nails with the color of your choice.  Try “Stickey” by CND for a really goo base that helps your nail polish bond better to your nail.  Next, apply your color of choice.  Any color works, really, but to get the funky, rocker vibe, try a darker color, like OPI’s Black Onyx or Here Today, Aragon Tomorrow.

Now, to get the studs, you’ll have to visit a craft store, or look online. You can probably find a wheel of 1200 different coloured metal studs on eBay for just under $10.00.  They come ion multiple colors and sizes, so pick the ones you think you’ll use the most. You’ll also need some tweezers to drop the little guys on your nails with.

Usually, the Buffs advise you to use a fast drying topcoat, but for the purpose of this project, it helps to use a regular drying topcoat. Do a coat of clear topcoat, this will act as “glue,” and then begin stick your studs onto the nail with tweezers in whatever design you choose! You could do rows down your nails, a few strategically placed ones, the options are endless!  You can re-use the studs, too, if you remove them carefully!  Be sure to press the studs on to your nails with the end of the tweezers to make doubly sure they are firmly stuck on your nail.  Even if a few come off before you’re done rocking the look, it’ll be a cute, unmatched look!
