Hi! We’re Planet Beauty and we’re OBSSESSED with nail polish! Whether it’s nail designs, funky colors, or stickers, we want it all! In this edition of The Nail Files, we’re going to take a look at two trends that have caught our eye: press on nail stickers, and a design that can actually make your nails look longer, but also offers a funky twist on multi-toned nail polish– gradient nails!
To get the funky, faded color look, start by removing any old nail polish or residue on your nails with a non-acetone nail polish remover. To get the perfect mani, use a gentle cuticle remover like Deborah Lippmann’s Cuticle Remover. Use an orange stick to remove the product after about 2 minutes. Next, apply a good base coat, like Stickey by CND, which really helps nail polish anchor to the nail, and protects your nails from any weird chemicals in polishes. Now, you’re ready to apply the lightest color in your gradient color scheme. Apply as many coats as needed to make a really opaque look.
For the next part, pick a color slightly darker, but in the same color family as your lighter shade. The technique for this next part can differ based on what your comfortable with, some people like to use and orange stick to press into the polish to spread it out, and others like to use a makeup sponge to press the color on to the nail — the choice is yours! If you choose to use a makeup sponge, try putting a glop (Is that even a word? I promise I have a degree in English!) of polish on a paper plate and dabbing the sponge in the polish before applying it gently to your nail, from about half way to the nail bed. Continue this way for a third darker color, halfway up the second color. Add a coat of sparkly polish at the tips for an unexpected twist. Finish with your favorite top coat to set the look, and VOILA! You have the latest trend in nail design! Try it with fun, bright, summery colors for a bright pop!
Another cool new trend popping up in the nail world are the new nail design stickers! These stickers are the easiest way to get the fancy look of hand crafted nail designs, but without the time (and price) of a salon visit. OPI’s contribution to this trend is their Pure Lacquer Nail Apps. You can certainly do this yourself: all you do is press the stickers on to your nails, easily tear away the excess to size them. Add a coat of your favorite top coat to seal it, and your mani will be rockin’ and chip free for several days! Another recommended way to get the look is to take your stickers to the nail salon and have them professionally applied. If you do it in a salon, they can apply the Gel Color Top Coat, which seals the stickers on your nails for at least 10 days! The best part: the stickers are easily removed with a cotton ball and acetone!
