On Grammy night, the fashionistas were out in full force! From big voluminous curls to pretty pompadours, out of this world outfits and manicures, and some jaw dropping performances, music’s biggest night did not disappoint!

Take a closer look at the 2012 Grammys red carpet Sunday night, and you’ll spot some not-to-miss creative manicures. Keeping in theme with her Scarface-inspired Armani gown, Rihanna’s manicurist Kimmie Kyees gave the singer Red Carpet Manicure’s gel polish in the shade Amor 24, then added a gold dollar sign to her pinky nail. Adele took home her six new Grammys with couture claws (also debuting a beautiful new blonde hair style!), using Ciaté’s holographic silver on top and crimson underneath to mimic her sparkly Christian Louboutin heels. Meanwhile, Katy Perry worked a blue French manicure (matching her hair and dress, natch), and Lady Gaga chose long metallic grey talons.

To get the look inspired by the shoes stars love, read on.  Trying to paint the underside of your natural nail might be difficult if you rock a shorter style, so grab a set of press on nails and paint the undersides before applying. Be careful not to use too much – you don’t want it seeping out the sides.   Paint tops of nails with your choice of lacquer. To mimic Adele’s Louboutin nail, embellish with rhinestones or a glitter topcoat.

Another trend in hair fashion was big, voluminous curls. We love the lively and exuberant vibe Corinne Bailey Rae, Kelly Rowland, and Diana Ross brought to the Grammy Awards red carpet with their naturally curly hairstyles! Rae swept hers over to one side, Rowland gathered hers into a huge ponytail on the back of her head, and Ross let hers hang full and loose like the diva she is!  To get the look without looking like Bozo, add some shine serum to your favorite curl cream (this blogger likes Colure Curl Wave Styling Crème) and gently rub through hair, then air dry.  Finish with a light hold hairspray to set (like Alterna Caviar Working Spray) and you’re as red carpet ready as the stars!

Also seen on the red carpet this Sunday were Kate Beckinsale, Katy Perry, and Alicia Keys hailing to times bygone with chic mini-pompadours. While Perry’s and Keys’ looks were more suited for the red carpet, a bumped-up ponytail is flattering for everyday wear. Pompadours work best on clean, blown out hair, so be sure that strands are sleek before trying this style out on your own. Start by separating the top layer of your hair, and using a soft-bristle comb, tease at the crown to create lift. Smooth a section of sleek, unteased hair over it to cover the backcombing, and pull into a ponytail.  Finish with a light hold hair spray to set in style.

Another trend this season was understated makeup.  Most stars kept it simple, choosing either nude lips with big false lashes, or a simple red lip to set of their look.  To get a flawless lash application, fit the lashes to your eye first, then cut off the excess.  Dap a small amount of glue on the band, and let it get tacky for 15 seconds.  Starting at the inner corner, slowly press the band right on the lash line.  Using the back of an eye shadow brush can sometimes help with the process.  Let dry for 3 minutes and voila! You’re lashes are good to go!  To keep your red pout all night, line your lips with a nude colored lip liner, and fill in completely.  Then, swipe on your favorite red color and show off like the siren you are!
